A Test of Color

I bought Vicki McMurry’s book Mastering Color and I tried to emulate the colors that are on the jacket cover before reading the book. The painting is sort of a test to see how I improve after reading the book. I love her colors and I love her style. I should only hope to one day be half as good.

She paints in oils which I think is an advantage and mine is in acrylic but…we’ll see.

Drinking Fountain

5" x 7" Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Well here is my first attempt at "impasto" painting. Not too bad I don't think. It grows on me the more I look at it. It's one of those that come more into focus as you back away from it. Go ahead try it, you'll see.

Watercolor & Ink

Okay this is the last one for tonight. It's in response to a challenge to do an ACEO regarding Golf.

Bluebeard ACEO

ACEO 2.5” x 3.5” Miniature Affordable and Collectable
Watercolor & Ink

Here is another ACEO in response to a challenge to do something regarding Bluebeard. Funny, he doesn't look that mean.

Spring Landscape ACEO

This one is an ACEO. For those of you not familiar ACEO is an Art Card Editions and Originals. They are 2.5" x 3.5". Originally starting out as ATC's or Art Trading Cards.

Anyway this one was fun and the colors were so pretty that I thought I'd post it. A little out of season but hey....

Yellow Roses 2

This is the last yellow rose for a while. I think I need to work on some white ones.

Apple Tree

I don't know what happened tonight but my brush sure was busy!

Cherries on the branch

I'm really starting to like this style of painting! Who knew?

Yellow Roses 3

This flower looks so sunny and it's raining like the dickens outside!

How it looks on Yellow Roses

I like this effect a lot. So much so that I made 2 more just like it.

American Beauty Rose

This one came out nice. The American Beauty is just that...beautiful.

The Tangerine

This one uses the same colors as the aqua one. I like to think of it as Tangerine. It's a happy little picture.

Aqua Abstract 1 of 2

Oh I'm on a roll now. This is one of 2 5x7's that also managed to get the squiggly black lines.

I may have to rename my works as "The Little Black Line"

What do you think? Catchy or not?

Orange Cloud

I like this one very much. I don't know what it is about it...maybe it's those little black lines.

It looks to me like an orange cloud.

Pink Rose Experiment

This was an experiment that quickly turned into 6 additional rose paintings. I don't know why but I really love the little black accent lines. They seem to pop up in my abstracts too.
The first 2 I did the accent lines in a burgundy and it just didn't seem to "pop" so this was actually my 3rd experiment. SOLD

The Purple Tulip

This is a tulip ACEO that I recently painted. SOLD

I keep dabbling in different styles of painting. I guess I haven’t found my true niche yet.

My first post

This is an image of a recent ACEO that I completed.
SOLD
This is my first blog post. These first few posts will be experimental so please bear with me.
